In her previous ‘pre-baby’ life, Emily worked as a mental health nurse in an adolescent psychiatric unit in Melbourne. Now she is a mother of two – 22-month-old Archie and 9-week-old Ruby – and her life is completely different!
“Having lost my mum suddenly and unexpectedly 18 months ago finding out I was pregnant with a little girl was so special to me and to say I went overboard with the girly-ness in her bedroom is an understatement.”
Having always been a little obsessed with dream catchers (she even has a dream catcher tattoo), Emily wanted to go with the theme of dream catchers and feathers in Ruby’s nursery and was pleasantly surprised at how many beautiful pieces she was able to find.
“I love to find interesting and unique items on Instagram, and I love to support locally made items – my favorite pieces are the mobile from @minimer_au, and the handmade dream catcher from @bow_and_arrow_co.”
.
Emily was lucky enough to find Ruby’s nursing chair in IKEA – it was a bargain at just $50! “I absolutely love how comfortable it is, and it also bounces which great for late night re-settles. I also picked up her beautiful Swedish made troll cot secondhand online, and some of the decor and storage from Kmart.”
Whilst she manage to save money on some key pieces, Emily went all out when it came to storage; her biggest splurge was the IKEA tallboy, going with the old adage you can never have too much storage, “especially in a nursery, and particularly having a girl this time around!”
Emily took her time putting the room together, starting quite slowly with the wall decals from @lovemaestudio at 6 months pregnant, and only just adding the finishing touch this week – the beautiful string of heart succulent, gifted from a friend.
“It is now complete and I absolutely love the peaceful feel of her nursery.”
