We caught up with Jess, (aka @amothers.love) this week to talk about her love of shopping, Netflix, and styling… and how she managed to combine a mixture of styles into one cohesive space for her lil’ bunny Millie, and provide plenty of opportunities for imaginative play at the same time.
Tell us a bit about you?
Hi I’m Jess, mama to Millie (aka “Bunny”) my littlest of 4. I own my own small handmade business which was inspired by our lil’ bunny. My love for handmade and styling grows more each day. Never did I anticipate that Instagram would open the doors to me having to work to some extent everyday! Managing my multiple Instagram accounts plus my business and the daily collaboration and brand rep positions we hold is just unbelievable… I love it!
But with all this I still manage to curl up on the lounge with my babe and Netflix it – like 8 seasons of The Vampire Diaries in under 3 weeks.
How would you describe your overall style?
I actually don’t have 1 style. My style changes like the seasons, but I do favour boho-chic-vintage-country.
What “look” or theme did you set out to achieve with your child’s room?
Well, no surprise… I didn’t have a theme or a particular look in mind as I tend to just go with the flow!
I went with a few select favourite colours and worked with those to create Millie’s dream nursery which would be filled with her favourite things. This is the age where imaginary play time comes in, and providing her with her favourite things is just amazing to watch.
Where is your favourite place to shop for kid’s decor?
Is “Instagram” a valid answer? Haha… because I like to shop EVERYWHERE! I love the experience of receiving beautiful handcrafted pieces from many different Instagram stores.
What did you save on / get for a bargain, or DIY?
EVERYTHING!
I like to shop around and organise collabs, so it’s safe to say almost her entire room is filled with rep and collab pieces, bargains and DIY pieces. I’d have to say $99 for a new cot is a bargain… and I’ve made quite a few of the pieces in her room. [See list at the end of the interview]
What item was your biggest splurge?
Probably the chair which was an impulse buy from Bed, Bath & Table on a previous wedding anniversary. It was for myself but somehow ended up being in Millie’s nursery. Which seems fitting because it turns out I purchased it the day she was conceived!
How long did it take to put it all together?
Around 6 weeks tops for a full makeover top to bottom!
I don’t mess around and like to get things done… having so many amazing stores working quickly to help me achieve it was just so amazing and I’m so grateful to them.
