Created by mum Shaina, Flora’s minimal and natural theme nursery features plenty of rainbows and the most stunning mid century modern dresser.
Tell us a bit about you.
I’m a 30 something first time mom! Flora and I love adventuring to new cafes for coffee dates and thrifting. We also love being outdoors with my husband and two doggies.
How would you describe your overall style?
Minimal and neutral. Trying to minimise purchases and buy more quality pieces.
What “look” or theme did you set out to achieve with your child’s room?
I wanted her room to feel light and calming, with lots of textures and pops of colour and accent pieces.
Where is your favourite place to shop for kids decor?
Thrift stores, local shops and small online shops! My sister was a nanny in Australia and brought back so many great finds.
Where did you save on / get a bargain or DIY?
My husband DIY’d her hanging wood shelf. Her mirror, rattan rocking chair, book shelves and baskets were all thrifted over a year.
What item was your biggest splurge?
I would say her crib (Pottery Barn Kids) and her mid century modern dresser. We wanted to invest in a dresser instead of a change table so it would transition to a big girl room and be a piece she’d have for a long time.
How long did it take you to put it all together?
Almost the full 9 months. As excited as I was to do up this room, I wanted to be careful picking items I truly loved.
What’s your favourite part of the room, and why?
That’s a hard one. I honestly am so happy with the whole room. At 7 months in, I still love opening her door every morning and seeing her room. It really brings me joy! I think my favourite things are all the items her aunt brought home and sent her and her rainbow mobile. Also, the shelf her daddy made her, such amazing memories putting this room together with him, so excited for our little Flora.
Is there anything you wish you’d done differently? If so, what?
Absolutely nothing! To this day I am so pleased with how it all came together.
