It’s been awhile since we’ve shared a little boy’s room as part of our Real Nursery Style series, so we’re super excited to be showing you Bowie’s room! This gorgeous space, styled by mum Renee, is based around a monochrome colour scheme, but is softened with the addition of mustard and grey tones.
Tell us a bit about you:
I’m a mum to 4 children: Georgia (16), Charlotte (12) and twins, Coco and Bowie, who are 2. My husband is FIFO so I am mum, dad and everything between whilst he is away. I also work part time for Ambulance Victoria.
How would you describe your overall style?
I like to keep up with trends and change things often. Right now I’m loving all things vintage for girls and throwing in some colour to break away from the monochrome boys that’s been around for so long. I consider my home to be modern but each room has its own style as such.
What “look” or theme did you set out to achieve with your child’s room?
Bowie had a monochrome nursery. I have seen this done so much that I decided I wanted something different and whilst he was transitioning into a bed I’d throw in some mustard and grey tones to break it up.
Bowie is my only son so I really want to keep the boyish charm to his space. Something and somewhere that’s ‘his’.
Where is your favourite place to shop for kid’s décor?
I have SO many places I love for kids décor! [See the full list of Renee’s faves at the bottom of this post]
What did you save on / get for a bargain or DIY?
I knew I wanted a house bed for Bowie. But I wasn’t keen on him being on the floor, and we wanted something sturdy. So my husband (who is qualified in steel fabrication) made his bed out of steel. Designed and built here at home for under $200. Sturdy and we love it!
What item was your biggest splurge?
My biggest splurge would be the custom-made quilt from @ohdeerdoe. Jo helped me choose fabric and made it to suit this new design and extra big to fit his bed. The quality is phenomenal and certainly a highlight in this space!
How long did it take to put it all together?
I’m always looking for and purchasing items for home, so nothing stays the same for long. His room took me a couple of weeks to source items then fit it out in a day.
