We do love ourselves a bit of monochrome, and were delighted to be able to chat with Danielle this week from Tiger Tale Art – a biz that specialises in stylish, modern monochrome prints for the animal-loving adventurer. Here’s what she had to say…
Tell us a bit about yourself?
I am a Southern California girl, a former professional athlete, a mother of 2 babes, and a wife to the love of my life. I love adventure, animals, nature, art, being active, and travel.
How did you get started with your Tiger Tale Art?
I have always enjoyed drawing, crafting, painting, building, and creating but for the majority of my life, focused heavily on athletics. When my kids were born and I came to terms with my athletic career being limited to weekend recreational leagues, I starting investing my energy into drawing. I constantly feel called to be making something and my kids have given me the courage to turn my passions into my business.
What (or who) are your biggest influences?
My designs stem from my love of nature, exploring, and animals and my effort to instill this love into my own kids. I am a big fan of monochrome nurseries and kids rooms. I also like monochrome art used as accent pieces. A lot of the generic kids decor is just so cheesy. I like to create artwork that will grow with a child and will fit into theme after theme as their tastes change.
Do you experience mum guilt and how do you tackle that?
Of course! I would imagine all moms do. I provide outlets for my kids and remind myself that my kids also need to learn the skill of independent play. I also block time for business and time for uninterrupted play time with my kids.
If you could sum up your day in three words what would those words be?
Scattered. Adventurous. Varied.
What does your workstation look like?
Organized and simple. I try to only keep the essentials. I also do most of my drawing in the yard, overlooking the chickens, while the kids play.
Give me your best kid distraction strategy:
When I am designing, I get out the paints for the kids so they can “design” too. We also have a wonderful yard with garden beds, fruit trees, chickens, cats, and dogs that provide quite a bit of entertainment.
What are you most proud of achieving biz wise?
Having the courage to get started and put my work on display.
What are your big goals for the next 12 months?
We are in ground zero, start up phase so in the next 12 months, my goals are to start collaborating more, continue to design, get my work in more local shops, take part in local art fairs, and begin the first steps into creating a kids clothing line with my designs.
