Sophie Kost is a supermum and Interior Designer whose sole goal is to make homes beautiful. Her Styling Service Menu is extensive – from a quick make-over (entree) to a complete change (main course), My Beautiful Abode has got you covered.
When she’s not working or being a mum, Sophie loves taking walks or just sitting by the seaside as it keeps her inspired. We had a chat with this inspirational biz babe about how she balances running her own business with family life and a house full of boys.
Tell us a bit about yourself:
I grew up on a dairy farm in south-west Victoria near Timboon. I always loved drawing and creative arts and knew I would one day move to Melbourne to study design. I now live in Melbourne with my husband, Michael and two sons (Matthew, 10 and Peter, 7).
What (or who) are your biggest influences?
I am always inspired by a trip to the countryside, where I go to relax. Whether it be a walk through the fields, lazing by the seaside or driving through the sweeping plains heading inland, I always find colors and textures that I want to bring into my clients’ homes.
Do you experience mum guilt and how do you tackle that?
I’m awfully lucky to be able to run my business from home. I schedule appointments during school hours or on weekends while my boys (all three of them!) go on adventures.
If you could sum up your day in three words what would those words be?
My day in three words would be; quick, quick, slow.
What does your workstation look like?
My workstation is cluttered. I always have a small collection of samples I’m working with all within hands reach. On the wall in front of me are taped photos of my previous projects, my sketches, photos, samples of wallpapers and inspiring prints. My goals for 2017 front and centre to keep me on track!
Give me your best kid distraction strategy.
During long drives, we play “Spot-o!” to stop boredom kicking in.
What are you most proud of achieving biz wise?
I am most proud of accomplishing my goals. It is gratifying.
What are your big goals for the next 12 months?
I have a long list of goals for My Beautiful Abode this year especially in finance, marketing and administration, but my major aim is to keep doing what works for me and avoid doing what does not!
