Adventure awaits with Aydin’s modern and playful room created by mum Kate.
Tell us a bit about you:
I’m Kate, a busy mum of 2, dd is 4.5 and ds is 2.5. I left the world of private recruitment to have my IVF babies. 1 year ago I begun studying Interior Design and Decoration at Mercer School of Interior Design. I am learning a lot about history, architecture, design etc and love that it has become my creative outlet, like reading designer books instead of trashy magazines (although I miss the mags!) Ideally, I would love to collaborate with more designers and gain industry knowledge from my idols – Mary McDonald and Jonathan Adler.
How would you describe your overall style?
Contemporary, modern and a little-bit Sassy! I am not afraid to use colour but love to keep the background white/grey-scale.
What “look” or theme did you set out to achieve with your child’s room?
Two’s room was modern and playful with an ‘Adventure Awaits’ theme.
Where is your favourite place to shop for kid’s décor?
Adairs, Linen House, Leo & Bella, Mocka, KAOS, Kip & Co, Minimacko, Kukkiakids, Lime Tree Kids, Le Toy Van, Kaleidoscope.
What did you save on / get for a bargain or DIY?
I got the reverseable bedspread and linen from Adairs DFO with 40% off and feature wallpaper was on clearance from Bristol shop
What item was your biggest splurge?
Everything was under $100 except the Hopscotch Rug.
How long did it take to put it all together?
4 weeks to gather/order the products and a weekend to pull it all together.
What is your favourite part of the room and why?
Definitely the feature wall.
Is there anything you wish you’d done differently? If so, what?
I would have put my sons name plaque in a bigger frame with double layer of matting.
