Having recently become a family of three, Anne-Claire discovered the wonderful journey of pregnancy, baby showers, nursery decoration and ultimately, parenthood. Combining this new-found passion and her fascination for the ocean, Mr O’Bear was born, offering a selection of accessories and gifts for women and babies with a nautical twist.
Tell us a bit about yourself:
My name is Anne-Claire, I am French and have been living in Australia for 3 years with my husband. We have a 10-month-old boy called Leon, who is very cute, crawling everywhere and keeping us very busy! We are loving life, and so excited to be living in beautiful Sydney.
How did you get started with your biz?
I have always had the entrepreneur-bug but only found my true passion and calling once I became pregnant. My friends were having babies too, so shopping for baby items (whether it was for us or for our friends) became an obsession! I have always loved the nautical vibe (my whole wardrobe is made of stripes..!) so I started buying a lot of striped items for babies and I realised there was a gap in the market. That’s when Mr O’Bear was born, specialising in women and babies gifts and accessories with a nautical twist.
What (or who) are your biggest influences?
The sea and our son!
Do you experience mum guilt and how do you tackle that?
Yes all the time. I went back to work recently, and I work on Mr O’Bear at night, so I’m fairly busy. I wish I could spend more time with my son. But I know that having happy parents is key for a baby, and I’m currently very happy with our current situation. I am fulfilling my dream of being an entrepreneur, and I thrive under (a little bit of) pressure. Happy mummy, happy baby!
If you could sum up your day in three words what would those words be?
Love, Laughter and Organisational skills (yes, yes, that counts as one word!)
What does your workstation look like?
Hum…. my workstation is the floor of our bedroom. My husband is always making fun of me, because we do have a desk! What can I say, my creativity unleashes when I am sitting on the floor, working with my hands!
Give me your best kid distraction strategy:
Right now, our son loves to play with things that roll…. Whether it is a plastic bottle, a piece of wood or a fancy toy, he pushes it, follows it, crawls to it, and pushes it again. It can go for ages!
What are you most proud of achieving biz wise?
Creating a business! Mr O’Bear is only a few months old, but I am already very proud of having created it. I am so excited about its potential and can’t wait to see how things go!
What are your big goals for the next 12 months?
I would love to have market stalls to be able to sell my hand-made items (mobiles, necklaces and key rings). I also want to start selling baby clothes to add to our current offering. But before I invest more in the business, my number one goal is to break-even 🙂
